NEW DEVELOPMENTS
Experienced Investor Funds
Legislation was recently passed in Gibraltar for the creation of a new type of fund specifically targeted at experienced investors and high net worth individuals. The funds are called Experienced Investor Funds or EIFs. EIFs are an attractive alternative for Independant Asset Managers, family offices and individuals looking to set up a collective investment scheme which offers flexibility in terms of their legal framework and their investment scope as well as having the added advantage of a favourable tax structure. The funds do not require a licence but must comply with regulations and seek approval from the local regulator within 14 days of been launched. This means that EIFs can be set up within a very short time frame which in turn makes them very cost effective when compared to other types of fund vehicles. Gibraltar Fund Seminars 2006
The Gibraltar Finance Centre has held a number of seminars during 2006 with a view to promoting the funds industry in Gibraltar. The first set of seminars were held in London in early February and these were followed by two more in Zurich and Geneva in June. Speakers from the financial services industry in Gibraltar delivered presentations on private client business and the different aspects of the funds industry in Gibraltar. The seminars were well received in all three locations and proved to be a good source of information for many IAMs and IFAs looking for alternative jurisdictions for their clients.
